Famous Trains Acquires a Fairground Miniature Railway.

Our fairground miniature railway, set in a field midway between Darley Green village and Chinley station, is running. The engine is a German model 4-6-2, similar in outline to several miniature railway locomotives across Europe including some in the UK.

The model miniature railway track is Z-gauge, and represents a showman's miniature railway that can be laid in a field or in a car park and quickly taken up again when the show is over. The rails therefore represent aluminium track for light weight and easy handling in and out of a lorry, and hence they remain unpainted as aluminium rails don't rust!

Our model is operated by a push-button on the public side of the main Chinley model railway.

We are pleased with the performance of the locomotive, which is a Märklin model of a Bavarian State Railway S3/6 Pacific, liveried in dark green. We have lightly glued a truncated driver on the front of the tender. If you don't look too closely, he appears to be sitting in the normal position for a miniature train driver.

We are confident that this miniature railway will prove hugely popular, and that we will shortly need at least one more carriage for the engine to pull!
